Linux系サーバーにおいて、VMware Toolsの手動インストールに失敗してしまう。
参考FAQに準じてVMware Toolsのインストールを行う際に、以下メッセージ例が出力されて、異常終了してしまう事象がございます。
こちらはVMware Toolsのアンインストールが過去に試行されたサーバーを対象として発生しうる事象となります。
# ./vmware-install.pl
A previous installation of VMware Tools has been detected.
The previous installation was made by the tar installer (version 4).
Keeping the tar4 installer database format.
You have a version of VMware Tools installed. Continuing this install will
first uninstall the currently installed version. Do you wish to continue?
(yes/no) [yes]
Error: Unable to execute "/usr/bin/vmware-uninstall-tools.pl.
Uninstall failed. Please correct the failure and re run the install.
Execution aborted.

その場合、以下ファイルが残存することをご確認のうえ削除いただき、VMware Toolsインストールの再試行をお願いいたします。
/etc/vmware-tools/locations
